(SPRINGFIELD) Governor Bruce Rauner has deployed the state’s Swiftwater Search and Rescue Team and required mission equipment to North Carolina to assist with water rescues due to the catastrophic inland and coastal flooding caused by Hurricane Florence. The Task Force first responders from northern Illinois includes members from various local fire departments from throughout the state. The Swiftwater team will conduct search, rescue, and recovery missions for humans and animals over the next ten days and nights.
(SPRINGFIELD) The State Board of Education is exploring ways to address the teacher shortage in Illinois. The Board recently published a report on the issue, stating that the problem starts with money problems, noting 90% of most all teaching vacancies last year were in struggling school districts. Within that is the unequal funding for statewide school districts which directly affects the critical shortage of teachers, obviously in underfunded areas of the state. The report cites the importance of offering more mentoring and on the job support for teachers. The biggest need is for special education teachers.
