(SPRINGFIELD) The Illinois Department of Transportation has announced the Interstate 55 – Lake Shore Drive interchange has earned the Grand Prize in the 2018 America’s Transportation Awards, the top honor for state departments of transportation. The award, which includes a $10,000 cash prize for a local nonprofit organization, was presented to IDOT officials at the American Association of State Highway Transportation Officials annual meeting recently held in Atlanta. The Illinois project, selected from a field of 79 nominations from 35 states, also was in the running for the People’s Choice Award, determined by online voting. The Land of Lincoln project received 10,622 votes, the third most in the contest.
(SPRINGFIELD) Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White is joining fire and police departments throughout the state reminding parents and caregivers about new safety requirements during this National Child Passenger Safety Week. Beginning next year, January 1, 2019, state law will require children under age 2 to ride in rear-facing safety seats.
