(SPRINGFIELD) Beginning Monday, the Illinois Department of Agriculture will host more than twenty (20) international buyers from four different countries in an effort to increase export sales for the Illinois grain industry. Among the eight stops are visits to the Melvin Price Lock & Dam in Alton, the GSI facility in Assumption, the Tim Seifert U of I Farm near Auburn, a family farm near Utica, an ethanol plant near Hennepin, a farm equipment plant in Des Plaines, the Illinois Soybean Association offices in Chicago, and a traders group in Chicago. Over the past five years, the Illinois Grain Tour has generated more than $205 million in sales of grain, oilseeds, farm equipment, DDGS (distiller’s dried grains with solubles), and more.
(SPRINGFIELD) The Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) will begin scheduling appointments and accepting applications for winter heating assistance for senior citizens and people with disabilities beginning October 1, this coming Monday. While the sign up for disconnected households and families with children ages 5 and under won’t start until November 1, all other individuals not eligible for priority enrollment cannot apply until December 1. (CHICAGO) Getting ready to start its third year this coming Monday, Governor Bruce Rauner has proclaimed October as College Changes Everything Month (CCE Month), when the state’s college access and financial aid agency, the Illinois Student Assistance Commission (ISAC) and partners will be assisting students with college applications and putting them in the best position possible to receive the funding they need to attend. In recognition of the Illinois Bicentennial, more than 200 official CCE Month sites across the state will hold college application and financial aid events.
