(SPRINGFIELD) With fall weather officially here, along with cooler conditions, the Office of the State Fire Marshal is asking all Illinoisans to observe some tips on fire safety. It’s the normal reminders, such as making sure all those fireplaces, heating stoves, and chimneys are cleaned and inspected for safety, plus avoid burning leaves or trash on windy days, especially around unharvested crops or grassy fields and/or pastures. Also make sure those family or party bonfires are contained within a pit or sidewalls and keep those space heaters at least three feet away from other objects, such as curtains or other flammable items. Additional fire safety tips are available on two websites, www2.illinois.gov/sites/sfm or www.nfpa.org.
(SPRINGFIELD) The Illinois Supreme Court announced yesterday the approval of amendments to Supreme Court Rule 41, which back in 1971 established an Illinois Judicial Conference (IJC) “to consider the work of the courts, to suggest improvements in the administration of justice, and to make recommendations for the improvements of the courts.” The amendments are designed to create a smaller, more active and engaged IJC, which will be tasked with creating and implementing a long-term statewide Strategic Agenda for the judicial branch. The new IJC will be comprised of twenty-nine (29) voting members, including fifteen (15) judges and fourteen (14) non-judges, with Chief Justice Lloyd A. Karmeier serving as Chair. The rule change is effective this coming Monday, October 1st. The Amended Supreme Court Rule 41 is available on the Court website at www.illinoiscourts.gov/SupremeCourt/Rules/default.asp.
