The Olney VFW Post Home will host its Family Freedom Festival this coming Sunday afternoon from 2:00 to 4:00. The event will feature various games, plenty of prizes, good food, and great music.
The St. Isidore Parish, St. Joseph Catholic Church, in Island Grove, will have its Annual Fall Breakfast & Raffle this Sunday morning from 7:00 to 12:00. The menu includes whole hog sausage, ham, pancakes, fried eggs, scrambled eggs, homemade breads & rolls, and drinks. The $7 tickets for adults and $4 tickets for children 10 years old and under will be on sale at the door. Plus a country store and quilt raffle as well.
The Richland County Democrats are hosting a free spaghetti dinner and silent auction coming up this Saturday evening at the Olney VFW Post #4226. With the pasta, salad, and drinks served from 5:00 to 7:00, various donated items will be available through the silent auction, plus those attending with the chance to meet with and talk to current candidates and elected officials. The Sailor Springs Chowder is this coming Saturday with serving from 11:00 to 2:00. Also including barbeque, brats, pie, cake, and drink, either dine-in or carry-out. Bring your own containers for bulk chowder, but no glass containers. Plus, music from Liberty Road. Bring your lawn chairs. All are invited.
The Flora Public Library will host a couple of special programs this Saturday, October 6 : the “Tale of Two States : Kentucky & Illinois” program will be presented by author Eddie Price, starting at 1:00 – the historical program is free. Prior to that, Price will present a child’s program featuring his past and most recent children’s books with illustrations by Mark Wayne Adams. The Olney Lions Club is helping sponsor free eye screening for Diabetic Retinopathy during Saturday’s HealthFest 2018 at Olney Central College. That’s from 7:30 to 11:00. So stop by to have your eyes photographed free of charge. Early detection is a major factor in the prevention of visual loss.
The American Legion Jasper Post #20 in Newton will host their monthly “pork loin dinner” this coming Thursday night, with serving to begin at 6:00. With tickets on sale at the door, the public is invited.
