(OLNEY) The Illinois Eastern Community Colleges (IECC) has been awarded $120,000 in supplemental funding from the U.S. Department of Education for the college district’s TRIO Upward Bound Program. This award is targeted to increase the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education to current program participants during the 2018-2019 grant year. The IECC currently houses three Upward Bound grant programs at Olney Central College, Lincoln Trail College, and Wabash Valley College, serving approximately 210 first generation and/or income eligible 9th through 12th grade students at eleven area high schools throughout the IECC District. The additional funding will be used to incorporate new science curriculum, acquire advanced technologies such as aerial drones, robotics, & other mobile devices, and expose participants to STEM-related careers.
