(SPRINGFIELD) A majority of voters casting midterm election ballots in Illinois said the country is headed in the wrong direction, according to a wide-ranging survey of the American electorate yesterday. As voters cast ballots for Governor and members of Congress in Tuesday’s election, the Associated Press (AP) VoteCast found that 33% of Illinois voters said the country is on the right track compared to 67% who said it’s going backwards. The survey included about 138,000 voters and nonvoters, over 1,000 from Illinois.
(CARBONDALE) Chief Justice Lloyd A. Karmeier of the Illinois Supreme Court will be in Carbondale tomorrow to administer the attorney’s oath to 46 new lawyers in the downstate Fifth Judicial District. The group of attorneys is among 1,283 total individuals who will be sworn in and admitted to the practice of law in Illinois during bar admission ceremonies held in the state’s five Supreme Court judicial districts. This will bring that total number of licensed attorneys in Illinois to approximately 98,000. The other swearing in ceremonies will be held in Springfield, Joliet, Elgin, and Chicago. The downstate Fifth Judicial District is made up of the thirty-seven (37) southernmost counties in Illinois, including our area counties of Richland, Jasper, Crawford, Effingham, Fayette, Clay, Marion, Wayne, Wabash, Edwards, and others to the south.
