(SPRINGFIELD) Illinois is for sure the Land of Lincoln as voters in the Illinois Top 200 project have selected Abraham Lincoln as the top leader in state history, recognizing his role in ending slavery and holding America together through the Civil War. President Lincoln was followed by three other presidents with Illinois connections, Ronald Reagan, Barack Obama, and Ulysses S. Grant. Social worker Jane Addams, winner of the Nobel Peace Prize, rounded out the top five selections in the online voting. The following five selections were Native American and Sauk Warrior Black Hawk, NAACP co-founder Ida B. Wells, Illinois Governor Adlai Stevenson II, union organizer Mother Mary Jones, and politician Hillary Clinton. (SPRINGFIELD) It’s been announced that Governor Bruce Rauner and Governor-elect J.B. Pritzker will make a joint appearance at the state’s 200th Birthday Party coming up on December 3, the day back in 1818 when Illinois became the nation’s 21st state. In fact, both men are rallying around a unity theme in the recent aftermath of the November 6th general election a week ago today. The celebratory event will be held at the Aon Grand Ballroom at Navy Pier in Chicago. Those attending the affair will be treated to a star-studded presentation of things BORN, BUILT, and GROWN in Illinois, including music and much more.
(SPRINGFIELD) The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is reminding the public that the first weekend of the 2018 Illinois Firearm Deer Hunting season is this weekend throughout the state as hunters will take to the woods and prairieland this coming Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, each day from a half hour before sunrise to a half hour after sunset. It’s the first three days of the seven day shotgun hunting season with the final days of hunting to be held two weeks later, November 29 and 30 and December 1 and 2.
