(SPRINGFIELD) In yesterday’s USDA Crop Report, there were 3.1 days on average suitable for fieldwork last week in Illinois. The statewide average temperature last week was 36.6 degrees, 7.0 degrees below normal. Last week’s average precipitation around the state was 0.80 inches, less than a tenth of an inch (0.08) above normal. As of this past Sunday, 96% of the state’s corn crop had been shelled with 94% of the soybeans and 92% of the sorghum also harvested around the state. Locally, farmers in the ten area counties surrounding Olney/Newton report much the same with most all regional farmers finished with the 2018 fall harvest, if not very close. All are reminded to continue thinking “safety first” as farm work continues.
