(SPRINGFIELD) The Secretary of State’s Office is announcing that Secretary of State Police will be out conducting statewide parking stings targeting individuals illegally parking in spaces reserved for persons with disabilities at shopping malls beginning this Black Friday, November 23. The mission is not to issue tickets, but to ensure that accessible parking spaces are available to those who need them. Drivers caught misusing a placard face a six month driver’s license suspension and a $600 fine, plus other fines apply. Currently, there are over 547,600 permanent disability placards, over 62,500 disability license plates, and over 6,600 disabled Veteran plates registered in Illinois. To report abuse of parking spaces for people with disabilities, call the Secretary’s hotline at 217-785-0309 or go online at www.cyberdriveillinois.com.
