(SPRINGFIELD) Court documents say the former director of a southern Illinois housing authority must pay a $500,000 penalty for wrongly using agency funds for personal expenses. The penalty is part of a settlement between former Alexander County Housing Authority Executive Director James Wilson and the Federal Department of Housing and Urban Development. The Southern Illinoisan newspaper reports that court records show Wilson making about $923,000 in false claims between December 2011 and May 2014.
(SPRINGFIELD) The Illinois House and Senate closed out the fall veto session this week, considering over 130 bills and resolutions. In the final hour of action in the State House, members took time to salute those members who will not be returning when the 101st General Assembly convenes in next month. The lawmakers stood to honor both 109th District State Representative David Reis of Ste. Marie and 107th District State Representative John Cavaletto of Salem. These two men will be replaced by Darren Bailey and Blaine Wilhour respectively. The State House will return to Springfield on January 7 for a two day lame duck session before the new session begins. The inauguration day in the State Capitol is January 9.
