(SPRINGFIELD) The State of Illinois continues to seek ways to support recovery efforts in Christian County after that late season tornado outbreak tore through Central Illinois nearly two weeks ago. State officials yesterday requested the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) to conduct a joint preliminary damage assessment. The county’s initial investigation submitted to the Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA) found 137 homes were destroyed or sustained major damage, with more than 500 other homes receiving less severe damage, all of which will not meet the criteria for a federal disaster declaration.
(SPRINGFIELD) In its latest report, Governor Bruce Rauner’s Health Care Fraud Elimination Task Force showed that it successfully avoided or recouped $218 million in wasteful or fraudulent Medicaid spending. In fact, the effort resulted in 39 fraud convictions including $27.8 million in recoveries through criminal prosecutions, civil actions, and/or administrative referrals. The Task Force has saved the state more than $665 million since its inception in 2016, using its cross-agency, data-driven approach to specifically focus on fraud and wasteful spending in Medicaid, Worker’s Compensation, & State Employee Group Insurance.
