(SPRINGFIELD) A reminder from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources about the final deer hunting opportunities around the state. Permits are now on sale over-the-counter for the 2018-2019 Late Winter Deer Hunting season, which is only open in twenty counties, six of which are in our downstate area, including Clay, Crawford, Shelby, Marion, Hamilton, and Saline. While unfilled firearm and muzzleloader permits from the previous seasons can be used in these specific counties, only antlerless deer can be harvested, regardless of the permits that remain. The Late Winter season dates are next Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, December 27 through 30, and the third weekend next month, on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, January 18 through 20, 2019. Also, the statewide Archery Deer season continues now through January 20, 2019. For more details on all things outdoors in Illinois, logon at www.dnr.illinois.gov.
