(SPRINGFIELD) Governor-elect J.B. Pritzker yesterday named some top staff members. Former State Comptroller Dan Hynes, State Representative Christian Mitchell, and education advocate Jesse Ruiz will all serve as Deputy Governors. Pritzker is preparing for his inauguration in Springfield set for January 14th.
(SPRINGFIELD) Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White is joining the Illinois State Police in reminding all motorists who’ll be celebrating during the holiday season to drive safely by not driving impaired or distracted. State statistics show that last year in 2017, from Christmas Eve to Christmas Day, four of the eleven driving fatalities were alcohol-related in Illinois. Also last year in Illinois, four of the six fatalities were alcohol-related from New Year’s Eve to New Year’s Day. Those planning to drink and celebrate should take public transportation if available or designate a sober driver. All are encouraged to observe all the “rules of the road” in Illinois, including the use of safety belts by all drivers and passenger and avoid driving while distracted, with a special emphasis on not texting while driving. The Illinois State Police and statewide local law enforcement agencies are now out in extra force through the first week of the new year.
(SPRINGFIELD) The Cahokia Mounds Museum Society, the support group of the Cahokia Mounds State Historic Site, has been awarded a $100,000 Digital Projects for the Humanities Grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities. The Society will use the project funds to develop a functional prototype of an augmented reality application that will be available for smart phones and other platforms, plus an educational website featuring the Cahokia Mounds site.
