(SPRINGFIELD) The Illinois Department of Transportation has announced it is suspending all non-emergency construction projects until one minute before midnight on Christmas Day and again between the afternoon of December 28 until just before midnight on January 1, 2019. IDOT says the better news for travelers is that in some cases, the disappearing work crews will mean the reopening of some lanes of traffic. While most of the projects effected are in the Chicagoland area, the suspension is statewide.
(CHICAGO) A Minnesota-based poultry producer is recalling more than 164,000 pounds of raw ground turkey products that may be contaminated with salmonella. The Jennie-O Turkey Store products have markings saying to use or freeze by November 12 or 13. The recall includes plain ground turkey and turkey with taco or Italian seasonings. The recalled products have the tag P-579 marked on the lower left corner of the front of the package. The products were shipped to Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Missouri, and 13 other states.
(SPRINGFIELD) State and local law enforcement in Illinois are stepping up patrols over the holidays to arrest drivers who drink or take drugs, then drive. The “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign is in full gear now through January 2nd, 2019. State Troopers and local agencies will be doing their part to crack down on what’s been identified as the four main underlying causes of fatal crashes : driving under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol, speeding, distracted driving, and failure to wear seatbelts. During the Christmas holiday weekend last year, eleven people died on statewide roads, four of which tested positive for alcohol. All motorists are urged to follow the “rules of the road” and arrive alive this holiday season.
