(SPRINGFIELD) The U.S. Census Bureau estimates Illinois’ population shrunk by more than 45,000 over the twelve months ending last July 1st. The numbers released yesterday show that loss was more than any other state except for New York, which lost more than 48,000 residents. The two states were among nine that lost population during the one year. The estimates have Illinois remaining as the sixth most populous state with more than 12.74 million people, behind California, Texas, Florida, New York, and Pennsylvania.
(SPRINGFIELD) The Illinois Department of Transportation, Illinois State Police, and nearly 200 local law enforcement agencies remind all motorists to drive sober to save lives during the New Year’s holiday. Now through the early morning of January 2nd, Illinois motorists will see additional enforcement patrols across the state to help keep our roads safe. The holiday campaign features the familiar “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” and “Click It or Ticket” messages. In addition to DUI and seat belt offenders, statewide law enforcement personnel will show zero tolerance for speeding, distracted driving, and other offenses.
