(NEWTON/OLNEY) Here’s look at the snowfall amounts officially reported to the National Weather Service from last Friday afternoon through 6:00 yesterday (Sunday) morning. The state’s highest snowfall total was 12 to 16 inches from Quincy to Jacksonville, followed by 9 to 12 inches from Carlinville to Sullivan, then 6 to 8 inches from Carlyle to Vandalia to Effingham to Mattoon to Charleston to Paris. Most of the Route 50 corridor from Salem to Olney to Vincennes and the Illinois Route 33 corridor from Newton to Robinson received 2 to 4 inches while 1 to 3 inches fell from Mt. Carmel to Carmi. Portions of South Central and Southeastern Illinois was followed by mostly all rain by Saturday afternoon through Saturday night, although there were some flurries and light snow reported on Sunday. Most all roads and highways in South Central and Southeastern Illinois were wet but clear of any snow or slush by Saturday afternoon.
